Yesterday was my last day – I hope – as a full time employee. I realised a couple of months ago that it was no longer possible to combine my job with a writing career and do justice to both. Put like that, the choice was obvious. I have wanted to be a writer when I grew up ever since I was about seven and started writing my first book in a little Red-and-Black bound notebook. It has just taken me rather longer to grow up than I had expected.

So, today really is the first day of the rest of my life. I’m just hoping it isn’t all like this.
