Editing

As well as my fiction writing I am available to edit policy documents and other non-fiction publications on a freelance basis. Documents I have worked on include

• Pro-poor Certification: Assessing the benefits of sustainability for small-scale farmers in Asia for IIED
• The 2012 SME Policy Index: Western Balkans and Turkey for the OECD
• The Economics of Adapting Fisheries to Climate Change for the OECD

Work can vary from simple proofreading and working against a style guide to more fundamental editing for length, jargon busting, or completely reworking to make the argument flow more logically.  I am used to working to tight deadlines and with highly technical documents, turning them into direct and readable prose for the intended audience without losing the sense.  Prices vary according to the length and nature of the work – email me (sallyhinchcliffe AT gmail DOT com) for a quote. Web writing

Part of my non-writing life includes cycle campaigning which means I have been producing a lot of campaigning web material. For instance I wrote most of the Pedal on Parliament website and produce the GB Cycling Embassy‘s weekly blog roundup. Website workshops

I am planning on holding a number of workshops for people (particularly writers) who would like to create a website for themselves but don’t really know where to start. Using freely available platforms like WordPress it’s easy for someone who’s reasonably technically minded to create a simple but professional looking and easily updated website – without having to fork out hundreds of pounds. The workshop will be hands on so by the end of the day you will actually have created the website and done most of the things you need to do for day to day updates.
