I’m grateful to them for writing the blurb because I can never think of anything remotely snappy and/or coherent to say about my book. Giving up the Day Job

Yesterday was my last day – I hope – as a full time employee. I realised a couple of months ago that it was no longer possible to combine my job with a writing career and do justice to both. Put like that, the choice was obvious. I have wanted to be a writer when I grew up ever since I was about seven and started writing my first book in a little Red-and-Black bound notebook. It has just taken me rather longer to grow up than I had expected.
So, today really is the first day of the rest of my life. I’m just hoping it isn’t all like this.

First Review!

I have been directed to this – the first review I’ve seen of de Jaarlijst which has appeared on Vogeldagboek. According to Google’s handy translator, I think they like it. It’s especially pleasing to receive an endorsement from a fellow birder, which gives me the confidence that I’ve managed to convey the subtleties of the birding world. And it’s a sign too that bird watching may be the same the whole world over…

In Which I Register a Domain

OK, so this is serious. I’ve been playing around with this site for a while, but haven’t really made it official. But Birkbeck have just asked me for details of my biography, publications and any website information so I decided to actually take the plunge and register a domain.
sallyhinchcliffe.net is now mine, all mine. I didn’t fancy the naked commercialism of a .co.uk, or the rampant egotism of a .me.uk – .net seemed a suitable compromise.

Getting Started

I’m mainly using this blog as a personal website, somewhere where I can put up information about my books and short stories and other writing. This means persuading wordpress it wants to be a web site management tool instead of a blog – something I may struggle with.
Having got the blogging habit though, I will undoubtedly be putting up a few brief posts about the writing and publication process.
