Inside Out Festival

Posted by sallyhinchcliffe on October 13, 2010

I’ll be making the long trek down to ‘that London’ to  appear – and reading – at the Inside Out festival on Monday 25th October – details here. It’s all part and parcel of the Writers’ Hub from Birkbeck, a lively resource for writers and the people who love them – or love to read them anyway.

If any readers are in London and can come along, don’t forget to come up and  say hi afterwards. I’ll be the one picking straw out of her hair … if you’re really lucky I’ll have remembered not to wear my fleece

New Short Story on the Writers’ Hub

Posted by sallyhinchcliffe on January 23, 2010

I’ve a brand new short story up on the Writers’ Hub – Down Under. Go and have a look – it’s free – and have a look at the site itself too. The Writers’ Hub is a new website for fiction, poetry, features, reviews and opinon on the world of writing. It’s run by the Birkbeck Writing Programme, but anyone can join to read, comment, or submit your own writing for publication on the site

Two Blasts from the Past

MIR 5

MIR 5

I got an email today informing me that this year’s edition of the Mechanics’ Institutue Review – AKA MIR 5 – is available on Amazon. Five! It seems hardly yesterday that I and the rest of the first editorial board were sitting in a room at Birkbeck, agonising over the choice of a title for our new baby.

Anyway, if it’s anything like the last four, I can highly recommend it. This one comes with stories by Ali Smith, Toby Litt and Sarah Salway, as well as a host of other writing by Birkbeck students who you will undoubtedly be hearing more from soon.

And the other blast from the past? Well, my father was googling around the internet the other day and couldn’t help buying me this:

The original and best?
